SPySE
Gun Shock Simulator
The SPySE (Simulated Pyro Shock Endurance) system is a compact gun shock simulator tailored to evaluate accessories attached to picatinny rails on small firearms. Its compact design allows it to fit seamlessly inside environmental testing chambers, ensuring assessments under challenging conditions. The system boasts an intuitive software interface for effortless operation.
SPySE is Suitable for testing day optics, thermal imaging sights, laser pointers, illuminators, laser range finders, and other equipment designed to be mounted on small arms.
Adaptable to replicate shocks ranging from a 5.56mm to a 12.7mm rifle, the SPySE’s design mirrors the weight and rigidity of a real firearm. It incorporates a unique piezoresistive accelerometer, optimized for capturing high-intensity accelerations in one direction at unparalleled sampling speeds. Calibration of the SPySE is achieved using recorded pyro shock accelerations from actual weapon discharges and the resulting shock response spectrum. This ensures the simulator can replicate both the main pyro shock and the recoil effect.
Utilizing pneumatic-actuated shock delivery from both sides, the device under examination is subjected to impacts while mounted on a mass mimicking the weapon, all within wire rope isolators. Post-calibration, the SPySE can be set to reproduce a series of consecutive pyro shocks, simulating both individual and rapid-fire situations. This makes it ideal for testing the resilience and performance of weapon sights during both preliminary screenings and final production assessments.
During these endurance tests, the device being tested remains operational and powered. Data from both the device and the SPySE’s generated shock can be captured for in-depth analysis later.
For Tonbo, the SPySE simulator is an invaluable asset, playing a pivotal role in guaranteeing product dependability. For manufacturers of equipment meant to be affixed to small arms, such as day optics, thermal imaging sights, laser pointers, illuminators, and laser range finders, this testing platform is indispensable.
