Why the Name ‘TONBO’?

Why the Name ‘TONBO’?

The etymology of the name comes from the Japanese word for dragonfly – Tonbo.

Tonbo technology takes its inspiration from the sensing and processing architecture found in nature. Dragonflies have compound eyes which help them achieve a very high degree of sensing, interpretation and navigation in a very small package. However, most camera systems and imaging platforms designed today are built using a single aperture. This has resulted in high fidelity imaging systems being bulky and expensive. Traditional systems across different imaging spectrums have relied on a single aperture principle with the burden of image formation placed excessively on the optics. Tonbo’s technology balances front end analog processing with sophisticated digital image processing to support the realization of light weight, low power imaging platforms across visible, mid wave IR and long wave IR spectrums.
